Sis Bates brings a level of excellence to the Washington softball team matched only by her USA National Team teammates. Remarkably, she got even better in 2018.
Bates, a sophomore infielder for the Huskies softball team, was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year on Saturday.
Bates posted a .985 fielding percentage for the Huskies, and doubled down on her efforts offensively, going on a nine-game hitting streak from April 13 to May 4 and leading the team with a .400 batting average. The sure-handed defender committed just 2 errors all season while logging 67 putouts and 68 assists.
As if that honor wasn’t enough, Bates also was named first-team All-Pac-12, joining four teammates for a school-record five selections.
