University of Washington athletic director Jennifer Cohen has heard the question from nearly everyone she’s interacted with over the past week: What will the new Adidas uniforms look like?
“I want to address the question that I get asked that most … and that is: What are the uniforms going to look like?” said Cohen, per The Seattle Times.
“I don’t have the answer for that, but I can tell you that we recognize that people are very passionate about uniforms,” Cohen continued. “We recognize how much the uniforms matter to our university and to our fans and to our alums. We also recognize and know that we have incredible brand here and incredible tradition here, and our goal is to design uniforms that really honor the brand and the tradition of this university.”
According to the Washington AD, the uniform design was not discussed during the negotiations with Adidas. The school and Adidas agreed to a 10-year, $120M deal earlier this week after Nike refused to offer more than the 11-year, $88M deal they have with Oregon. The agreement with Adidas, which begins in 2019, ended a 20-year partnership with Nike.
As for how Cohen believes the new Adidas uniforms will be received, well, she isn’t so sure everyone is going to love them.
“I’m going to go on record right now: Not everybody’s going to love them,” she said, per The Seattle Times. “But (tradition) will be the spirit behind our decision-making when we go into that process.”
