CBS Sports’ Ben Kercheval has the TCU Horned Frogs on upset alert against West Virginia this week.
Kercheval, like many, isn’t too keen on the West Virginia defense’s ability to stop the run. However, he thinks that if the Mountaineers’ defensive pieces that return can control the line of scrimmage, West Virginia has a real shot.
The Mountaineers will need to be very methodical with their drives, and not try to win the game all on one play. There’s a tendency at times in big games, where the quarterback decides that he needs to make everything happen on one play. Will Grier has shown an aversion to that tendency, whereas it’s a staple of Kenny Hill’s career.
The game will be won by whoever handles the spotlight best. It isn’t the biggest game for either of these two teams, both are undefeated in conference play and can potentially win the conference with one loss, but it still is big. It’s College Gameday, and the eyes of the college football world at large will be squarely on Fort Worth.
