West Virginia forward Esa Ahmad will enter the 2018 NBA Draft but will not sign with an agent, the athletic department announced Thursday.
By not hiring an agent, Ahmad will still have the ability to return to school for his senior season if he decides to do so after going through the NBA combine in May. Mountaineer forward Sagaba Konate has also declared for the draft without an agent. Both players will have until May 30 to remove their names from the draft.
“Just like Sags, Esa will go through the NBA Draft procedures in a systematic and professional manner by exploring the situation,” West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said in a statement released by the school. “Numerous college basketball players are testing the waters, gaining valuable feedback and leaving open their option to return to school.”
Ahmad averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game during the 2017-2018 campaign.
