With a few months remaining before the start of the 2018 college football season, the accolades keep coming for West Virginia’s dynamic duo of Will Grier and David Sills V. On Tuesday, Athlon Sports unveiled its preseason All-America teams, and both Grier and Sills made first team.
Both players had incredibly productive 2017 seasons for West Virginia, their first year linking up as the Mountaineers’ quarterback-receiver duo. Grier topped 3,400 yards and threw 34 touchdowns in just 10 full games last season. He threw 18 of those scores to Sills, who tied for the national lead in touchdown receptions in just his first season as a full-time wide receiver.
Grier is considered a future top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and West Virginia is planning to launch an official Heisman campaign in July. Meanwhile, after finishing as a Biletnikoff Award finalist in 2017, Sills is expected to be a top contender for the honor in 2018.
Grier and Sills aren’t alone on Athlon’s All-America teams, as well. Starting left tackle Yodny Cajuste earned a fourth team All-America berth, after having a strong bounce-back 2017 season coming off a torn right ACL in 2016. Cajuste is once again expected to form a rock-solid tandem with junior Colton McKivitz.
Only two other Big 12 players made Athlon’s All-American first team: Kansas State offensive lineman Dalton Risner and TCU punt returner KaVontae Turpin.
