Stewart Mandel is a busy man. Along with his travels across the country to interview the movers and shakers of college football, he also writes a daily mailbag for The Athletic. He serves that publication as editor in chief of The All-American vertical.
And he occasionally opines on the Big 12.
In his mailbag Wednesday (behind a paywall but well worth the cost), he analyzes Will Grier’s Heisman Trophy chances and the overall quality of play he expects this season in the Big 12.
Mandel says that Grier’s Heisman hopes depend on him keeping West Virginia in the chase for the Big 12 title.
He also states that he expects the Big 12 “could regress somewhat” because of the number of starting quarterbacks that departed from last season.
Grier clearly is the best quarterback returning in the conference.
West Virginia ‘absolutely’ has shot to win Big 12
Mandel also says that the Mountaineers “absolutely have a shot to win the Big 12,” which would help Grier’s Heisman chances and boost the Mountaineers into the hunt for the College Football Playoff.
